Fundraising Volunteers

We would like to recruit a team of volunteers to form a Fundraising Committee. It is expected that members will devise and develop the role as one of the initial tasks of the committee but our own ideas include approaching local businesses and retailers to request donations of clothing and toiletries for distribution through the project’s Drop In and approaching local businesses, individuals and retailers for donations of clothing, make up, toiletries and small gift items for inclusion into the projects Christmas gift boxes which are given out during the Christmas party.

In addition we wish to raise funds to establish a Hardship Fund to support our clients through the provision of larger essential items such as furniture, bedding, carpets and children and baby clothes. We want the Fundraising Committee to be able to secure funds for this through selling unusable donations via e bay and car boot sales; organising and running fundraising events such as sponsored walks, coffee and cake mornings and other social events and writing funding applications to local trusts.

In addition to raising money, running such events will also raise awareness of the organisation and the client group to groups of people who the project may not otherwise be able to access. Once the Hardship Fund is established, fundraising committee members will have the opportunity to join the hardship committee which will meet regularly to consider hardship applications from clients of the project.

We are looking for motivated, compassionate individuals who have some understanding of issues facing women who live and work on the street and would like to develop and deepen this understanding further. We need people who are non judgemental and who recognise how limited options, hardship and abuse can impact on women’s choices and who are prepared to work alongside our staff team to support women and young people to achieve their full potential. The majority of our staff team have a background in social care and we are particularly interested in individuals with corporate or business backgrounds or who have different perspectives who can bring some new ideas and perhaps challenge our mind set. Volunteers who have a shared personal history with the client group are always welcome. We are looking for people who can make a long term commitment.

We will provide some training to the group to further their understanding of the client group’s lifestyle and experiences. We are happy to provide additional support as required to the group who are welcome to use the project as a base but we are hoping that the group works independently as a team, using their skills and understanding of the issues to develop the fundraising and hardship committees and explore further opportunities according to the interests of the members. Membership of the committees will lead to other opportunities within the organisation including becoming a member of the management committee.
