‘Work with us to achieve a real change in our community’ – our director Della’s message to local businesses

Updated: Feb 4

The New Futures Project is to contact hundreds of companies across Leicester and the wider county to ask them to support our life-changing work in any way they can think of.

These businesses employ tens of thousands of people and generate a collective turnover of hundreds of millions, if not billions, of pounds each year

We’ll send an information pack to each firm in the coming weeks, including this personal letter from our director, Della Kagure Brown.

We have never attempted a fundraising appeal on this scale before now.

We hope they’ll take a few moments to read it and consider becoming an ally to us and the 700 women and young people we support in the course of a year.

Our primary message is that we’re busy – constantly so – and that, with their support, we could do so much more.

I am writing to you today to ask you to support our charity, The New Futures Project, Della writes.

I’m sure as a respected business you get many requests from local and national charities. No doubt you provide valuable support to some.

I’m asking you to do something different.

We aren’t just asking for your money. We’re asking for your commitment.

In the 24 years I’ve managed the New Futures Project we’ve worked with probably 12,000 women.

That’s 12,000 women who have been raped, abused and exploited – as children, young people or adults, recently or in the past.

As a result of their trauma, many of the 12,000 have struggled with suicidal feelings.

Many are vulnerable to further abuse through violent relationships and sex work.

We’ve supported women who have self-harmed and ‘self-medicated’ through drug and alcohol use, women who have experienced poverty, homelessness and despair. Women have died.

You will have a connection to some of the women the project has helped over the past 24 years and will continue to help in the years ahead.

Please help us to help them. Be a part of the change that needs to happen.

I hope you will accept our invitation to visit or speak to us and learn much more about our organisation and the work we do.

Please, join us in the effort to help our women to recover and thrive.

Every woman we support is a daughter, a granddaughter,  a sister, a mother or a friend.

I believe we get the community we deserve – and if we want change, we all need to play a part.

Please come and see how you could help.

New Futures was set up more than 20 years ago to support women involved in sex work.

However, we have evolved into a comprehensive welfare and counselling service for women and young people dealing with sexual abuse or exploitation, domestic violence, trafficking, poverty and debt, substance use or mental ill-health.

Call us on 0116 251 0803 or send us a message at: info@new-futures.org.uk

You can find us at 71 London Road, Leicester, LE2 0PE.

We publish a monthly newsletter to tell the stories of the women we support and to round up all the things we’ve been doing.

Sign up here to have it delivered to your inbox at the end of every month.
