Runners of Leicestershire – could you support our life-changing work by representing us in the Leicester 10k in 2025?

Updated: Feb 4

There are many ways to get behind The New Futures Project and the hundreds of women and young people we support.

Taking part in a sponsored event on our behalf is a simple way of helping us.

Well, something big taking place in Leicester next year lends itself to sponsorship. It’s the Leicester 10k race and it comes to the city again on Sunday, March 2.

We hope to recruit a team of runners to take part on our behalf. In return, we will provide all the help they need as they seek sponsors.

Helen Sharp, of The New Futures Project, said: “The Leicester 10k is a great opportunity for people to show their support for the project. Every penny raised will help us support some of the most marginalised women and young people in our community.

“We will do everything we can to assist those who run on our behalf, including booking and paying their entry fee, support with fundraising materials, and providing a race T-shirt – which they will get to keep as a memento of their day.

“Although the race is some months away, it would be advisable to begin organising now. We would love to hear from you.”

The race is organised by Run For All and is part of the of the ‘legacy’ of the late amateur athlete and fundraiser Jane Tomlinson CBE, according to an article on the Run For All website.

It continues: “Jane, from Leeds, made headlines around the world by taking part in a series of incredible endurance events – despite being diagnosed with an incurable cancer.

“The mum-of-three defied her devastating diagnosis to complete challenge after challenge – from marathons and triathlons to ironman contests and cross-Europe cycle rides.

“By 2007 her declining health meant she was unable to take part in any more extraordinary undertakings. However, using the money she raised on her epic American adventure, Jane was able to sow the seeds for the Run For All Leeds 10K – the cornerstone of what would become her continuing legacy.

“Today that one run has grown into one of the UK’s biggest not-for-profit events companies, providing a fundraising vehicle for a huge number of local and national charities.”

“Run For All continues to deliver a safe and secure environment for all participants. With a city centre start and finish, runners will set off from Jubilee Square before heading into the city centre and into the beautiful greenery of Victoria Park.

“The scenic landscape of the park will then weave runners through the University of Leicester before passing many of the city’s landmarks including the Leicester Museum & Art Gallery and Leicester Cathedral.

Participants will then head back towards the city centre for the electric finish line on Jubilee Square.”
