The New Futures Project

Fingers crossed everyone – we’ve been nominated for an award

We were thrilled to learn this month that we’re in with a chance of winning an exciting local award.

We’re delighted to report we’ve been nominated for the title of ‘charity of the year’ in the annual Furnley House Leicestershire Community Champion Awards.

The foundation is the charitable arm of local financial adviser and mortgage broker Furnley House, which is based in Melton Road, Leicester.

In their own words: “The aim of the foundation is simple: to help improve the lives of as many people as we can.

“Of course, that is a very broad aim. Specifically, we want to help those within our community.

“We want to help causes that are close to our clients and our staff. And we also want to help both registered charities and community projects.

“Over the years we’ve raised over £190,000 which was donated to several deserving causes.”

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be speaking further to the foundation’s trustees, giving them an insight into what we do here and how our wonderful staff and volunteers make a difference in the lives of the women and young people we support.

Carl Martin, our direct services manager, said: “We are thrilled to accept this nomination. It is wonderful for staff and volunteers to gain recognition for all the hard work they do.”

The foundation will stage an awards ceremony in November, so watch this space and keep your fingers crossed.

New Futures was set up more than 20 years ago to support women involved in sex work.

However, we have evolved into a welfare and counselling service for women and young people dealing with sexual abuse or exploitation – frequently involving domestic violence, trafficking, poverty and debt, substance use or mental ill-health.
