Smart phone technology has been introduced into the young people’s department as another means to communicate with the young people who access support from The New Futures Project. This is not only a free method of communication, but we understand it is also the preferred method for young people. Research suggests that more young people are using social media and are therefore more likely to respond to social messenger. The young people’s department use WhatsApp to communicate with the young people with smart phones. The young people are able to contact the young people’s department via their smart phones any time of the day and we will respond to the young people’s messages as soon as possible. In a similar way to Facebook it provides missing young people a means of communication to workers. This method of communication has been successful for young people not only to develop awareness of our services but it is a quick and easy method of making contact and arranging visits with young people where they feel comfortable and at a time convenient to them.
